I am so thrilled to have a new group of first graders! It is my hope, even with everything going on, that we will have a great year!
Our first grade website is your source for information. If you would like to read about what your child will be doing this year, please take a close look at this website. And please provide feedback! I'm looking forward to a wonderful year with my new first graders!
What to Expect
First grade is a very important year in your child's development. Students learn to read, write, and conceptualize and manipulate numbers. This is a time when your child learns that school is for learning and not just for socializing.
To help your child grow and excel, I have structured a schedule that will help them to fall into the first grade routine easily. Click on the "Classroom News" tab to find out what a day in first grade looks like. I try to keep my schedule consistent so that students always know what to expect.
Throughout the year, I will be using this website to showcase what your children are learning. I will describe activities and post pictures so you have a better idea of what the first grade curriculum entails. It is my hope that this website will help you to understand my teaching and how my classroom is run. Your children will be learning to decode through the FUNdations program and they will practice becoming independent readers during Reader's Workshop. They will write daily and learn about four writing genres. Students will also be exposed to new math concepts through games, individual exploration, and partner work.
I really look forward to making this year a successful year for your children. I will work hard to enrich their learning by supporting their different learning styles. I hope you will join me in making this year a great one!
