My name is Daniela Hurley. This year will be my twelfth year as a teacher at the Peirce School. I have been teaching first grade for all 12 years. I first started at Peirce in 2008, when I was assigned to be a teaching assistant in Mrs. Wall's classroom. I learned so much from being in her room! The following year, I interviewed for the opening in first grade and I got the job!
Before working at the Peirce School, I attended school at Boston University, where I received my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. Once I started working at the Peirce School, I applied to the graduate program at Lesley University. There I received my Masters in Reading. Along with a license for elementary education, grades one through six, I have received certification as a reading specialist/literacy coach for grades kindergarten through twelve. I will be using my experience to help new first grade teachers get to know the Arlington ELA Curriculum and be their mentor. I will also be a Literacy Leader in our district, contributing to the ELA curriculum and to professional development.
I am really glad to have the opportunity to work with new teachers because I have found that the classroom is where I belong. First grade is my favorite year to teach. I absolutely love how the children are so engrossed and engaged in everything that you teach them. Their interests are at their highest during this year and there's nothing more special than watching a first grader grow.
On a more personal note, I am married and have two daughters named Penelope and Olive! I talk about my family often to the students, so don't be surprised to hear some stories! They like to visit the classroom to read stories and just to say hello!
I hope that you got to learn a little bit about me. If you have any questions, please feel free to email! I am very excited and look forward to learning about all of my new first grade friends!
