We learn 3 units in science: Air and Weather, Sound and Light, & Plants and Animals. We use the FOSS curriculum to teach or students to investigate, explore, and draw conclusions about these different topics. Science is a lot of fun in our classroom. There are so many hands-on activities and explorations to help students grasp science concepts.
Pictures of our explorations are coming soon!
Social Studies
We cover many topics in Social Studies during the year. We have been working on expanding and fine tuning our curriculum to meet state standards. Our ultimate goal is to help students understand their place in our larger world. I can assure you that we focus on diversity and celebrating our differences and experiences. We strive to create an open and understanding classroom community. We also always invite parents to help share their traditions with our students. Do not hesitate to contact me if you think you'd be interested!
This year I will focus on having students share their lives and families with the classroom. This initial time spent on getting to know one another will help to foster that classroom community. We will then move on to learning about the election process followed by geography. We focus on reading, understanding and creating maps. As the year progresses, more updates about our Social Studies curriculum will be posted!
